Richard maintains an active private teaching studio in New York, in addition to being a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music pre-college division and at the Lycee Francaise. He has been a visiting faculty member at two music schools in Arhus, Denmark; the Fokemusicksolen and the Byhojskolen.

He looks back on the teachers he was fortunate to study with, from Chuck Mcpherson, Jimmy Cheatham, and Ralph Peterson to Michael Carvin John Riley, Garry Dial and David Liebman and realizes that all of them motivated and inspired him to continue learning and studying.

He feels it is very important not to separate the drums from the music, so in addition to learning technique, styles, reading, etc., Richard's students explore song forms from the very basic to the more advanced. He can also provide basic piano/harmony/ear training instruction. Students range from conservatory-bound advanced players, to adult beginners satisfying a lifelong dream, to kids as young as five.

Richard strives to make each lesson memorable, inspiring, and most importantly, fun! To inquire about lessons, please send Richard an email: richard@rlhuntley.com.
